3. What is the general employee attitude at your internship? Are the people driven by their work? Do they seem more interested in socializing/gossiping? Is there an air of respect for the job and the people who do it? Do people see this as “just a job,” and if so, how does this attitude influence their daily tasks within the job? Is this a job whose employees make you want to be a part of it?
As I walk through the hospital doors it is almost as if I enter an entirely different world. The first thing I learned about presenting my self as part of newton wellesley hospital, is to treat each patient as if they were one of my own family members. You never know what a person walking through the hall might be going through which is why it is always important to give a small smile as you pass, or ask if you could be of any assistance to someone looking lost. As I walk through the hall every worker I pass has a smile on his or her face, automatically putting one on mine. No matter how busy someone may be they will always lend a helping hand. Everyone is driven to do more than what is expected. The pay off for helping somebody get better gives even more of a desire to work harder. There is never a time at the hospital where doctors and nurses are more focused on personal conversations rather then their patients. Each patient that is discharged leaves with a smile. I loose count each day of how many times I hear a patient graciously thanking for all the care and assistance given during their time at Newton Wellesley. I know exactly what each patient is referring to when they say how caring and helpful everyone at the hospital is. personally I feel as if I can comfortably approach anyone when in need of assistance. Not only is this a volunteer job, it is also a serious time for me to get a feel for what working in a hospital will be like. I'm constantly speaking to nurses about their experiences with schooling and how they were able to get to the point of being successful at such young ages.
