I had another amazing opportunity to shadow a nurse in the emergency department this week at Newton Wellesley Hosptial. Right when I entered the department the action began, It was a busy day with many different emergencies to take care of ranging from child births to perturbing bones and stitches. The environment in the emergency room is constantly hectic, patients being rushed in and rushed out, air lifted and brought in by stretcher it was hard to feel not in the way.
I was able to speak to many different nurses throughout the day to get advice for my future plans and goals. After being able to experience shadowing a nurse in the psych ward and the emergency department I have decided that when I become a nurse I will gear my studies more towards children and become a pediatric nurse. I have made connections with the nurse educator for Regis college and will be taking a class this upcoming summer to further my studies in the nursing field, becoming certified as a nursing assistant who is registered with the state and can work in a hospital or any assisted living earning a paycheck while balancing college.
