After spending nine weeks at Newton Wellesley Hospital I am really enjoying my time here. I feel as if I am a larger part of the Newton Wellesley community then a volunteer. I have realized that patients truly appreciate the limited help I may be able to give, whether it is a ride in a wheel chair, a cold drink or even a warm blanket.
I never find my self in a bad mood or having a bad day when i'm at the hospital even though some of the jobs I preform are tedious and boring at times.. I am able to stay positive and happy because of the reward I get from a apprecative and compassionate patients. Many times I find my self more content and happy volunteering at Newton Wellesley Hospital than at my paying job. This past week I had a rewarding experience, that has left an everlasting impression on me. when I was escorting an elderly patient out of the hospital after her procedure. she turned to me and smiled asking my name and if was a nurse, I told her I'm just a volunteer, but my future goal is to become a nurse. she mentioned that she had seen me earlier helping another patient when she noticed my kind caring manner . She told me how comforting it made her feel knowing there were such young caring people. We approached her car she said to me, “Daniela with your beautiful smile and patience for people you will be a wonderful nurse”. Immediately I was stuck with a feeling of excitement, feeling proud that I can still have a positive effect on people without being a life saver.
